TURN stands for “Trader’s Unique Reference Number”. It is a number required by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to allow importers and exporters to obtain Customs clearance via the CHIEF (Customs Handling or Import and Export Freight) system. Use of a TURN relates only to trade with countries outside the European Union.
